About

Emma Santos (b.2002) is a Portuguese-British artist based in Central Portugal. She received her BA in painting at Camberwell College of Arts, London (2023).

Her work has been exhibited internationally, with solo shows at the Gremio Literario in Lisbon in 2021 and at Tagus Park in Lisbon in 2022. Her work has also been exhibited in group shows at The Koppel Project, Southwark Park Galleries and Curious Kudu in London.

Her surreal paintings weave together body and landscape. She explores the relationship between the human and non-human, using both cultural and natural references in her work. She currently lives and works in Sertã, Portugal, in her grandmother's home town.

Dismantling perceived opposites such as natural versus human and real versus imaginary in her work, she often layers imagery of the body with that of the landscape around her, while leaning into stories and dreams for inspiration. As a cross-cultural artist, she is interested in how we root ourselves in land and body through land and story.
